July 2010 | Art of Enquiry Lab

This was PAL’s second Art of Enquiry Day. The first was in June 2009, to mark PAL’s twentieth year. We wanted to continue the enquiry to stake a place for the value of adventurous research and development in a risk-averse society.

This collaborative exploration has informed PAL’s strategic thinking. Specifically, the first Art of Enquiry Lab inspired us to commission R&D to develop three new Lab programmes. It also strengthened our conviction of the value of our Artist as Leader programme, the aims and objectives of which are to enable artists to influence national and international policymaking through their artistic practice.

This Art of Enquiry Lab was specifically for the artists we were working with to develop new Labs and Lab programmes. We used the day to learn more about each other’s Lab ideas, to explore challenges, uncover connections and swap persuasive arguments about the value of the risky R&D process that is a PAL Lab.

“At this time of big change, we need organisations to help think, feel, hear, be, do in new and deeper ways with great people and PAL does that….thank you for a really inspiring day”.Roanne Dods
