After the Lab, the scheme’s programme manager wrote:
“The week of the Met Film Writers Lab was so intensive that trying to summarise its significance in a letter feels like an almost impossible task. The most amazing aspect is perhaps that so much work was done in a way that did not feel intensive and did, for the most part, not even feel like work. I think this really is testament to the understanding of the creative process that PAL have achieved over 20 years of Labs and is one of the factors that made the week as enjoyable as it was productive….
The nature of the work done is quietly profound. The activities or the schedule if I were to write them down are very simple but the changes in the quality of writing, quality of ideas and attitudes of our writers feels somewhat miraculous. I watched as those who engaged with the process despite their fears or nerves created powerful characters, moving scenes or found their whole story outline suddenly working in a way they had never envisaged…
The results of the Lab are already very impressive but I am sure that this week will inform the writers’ practice over the whole course and possibly over their whole careers.”
